Poltrona Frau has unveiled the new ‘Planetarium chair’, designed specifically for the recently opened Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Miami. The official unveiling will take place at the scenic Fonderia Napoleonica Eugenia foundry space during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan from 8–13 April.

The official presentation will be part of the ‘Elements’ installation – a thematic exhibition featuring some of Grimshaw Architects’ finest works in six focus projects. The projects will be showcased through a series of photographs, drawings, prototypes, installations, 3D models and other electronic resources.

Poltrona Frau will be collaborating with Grimshaw Architects to not only present the new Planetarium chair in Milan, but another new project, the Empac Conference Center in Troy, New York.

Grimshaw has designed the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science in Miami. The project includes the design of the building’s exterior as well as its interior. The 25,000-square-metre museum space will not only host exhibitions and events related to science and technology, but also house a 250-seat capacity planetarium.

The planetarium chair has been designed to suit the needs of the users, while also fitting in aesthetically with the interior space. Built with a combination of wood and metal, the chair is made with different inclinations to suit the seating position of the user.
