Share

Tokyo design studio Nendo has collaborated with artisan wire netting company Kanaami-Tsuji to produce the Basket lamp, connecting traditional design elements with a new context and a contemporary audience.

Kanaami Tsuji is based in Kyoto, the historic capital of Japan where the nation’s traditional arts are actively celebrated and preserved. The company specializes in the meticulous hand production of wire netting used predominantly in traditional Japanese cooking utensils; with ladles, tea strainers and grills among their regular wares.

Nendo’s Basket lamp uses the visual appeal of Kanaami Tsuji’s handcrafted wire material as a delicate shade for the pendant light, with the revision of powder coating the copper wire in order to accentuate the detailed geometric patterns in the work.
