HMMD International Architecture Competitions have announced their latest competition offering, set in the highest peaks of the Nepalese Himalayas.

The Himalayan Mountain Hut competition invites all architects to register their plans for a mountain hut design that could potentially house up to 20 people, for up to a week at a time, as a pit stop for weary trekkers on any Himalayan trail.

The competition is run in partnership with Samarth Nepal Market Development Program, which works to improve the economic opportunities for Nepalese rural sectors. Leaving the design’s particulars up to its competitors, HMMD suggests a few guidelines that should be adhered to so as to increase the chances of the winning designs being turned into a reality.

The Himalayan Mountain Hut should be comfortable, safe and inviting and be able to deal with the potential of extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain and snow). As well as this, while there is no specific location the hut should be designed for, HMMD suggests that it should be designed so as to be as replicable as possible in other areas, with the chance for the designs to be used for a number of similar projects across the Himalayas.

With HMMD awarding a total of $5,000 in prize money, registration for the competition closes on April 01, 2015.
