Sydney-based design practice Tom Mark Henry has won Emerging Interior Practice of the Year at the WIN 2017 Awards hosted by World Interior News.
The awards draw submissions from practices around the world and this year’s finalists for emerging interior practice included studios in Taiwan, Hong Kong, England, Austria, Italy and Australia.
“It is a real ‘pinch-us’ moment to be recognised on a global scale after only four years of business,” said co-director Jade Nottage. “It is an acknowledgement of the whole Tom Mark Henry team as everyone is imperative to our success and has worked very hard over the last four years. We are committed to our craft and it is gratifying and flattering that our passion and dedication has been recognised, particularly amongst the calibre of the other shortlisted practices,” Nottage said.
Cushla McFadden, co-director of Tom Mark Henry, attended the annual ceremony in London to receive the award. The WIN 2017 Awards were held at Somerset House overlooking the Thames River. “It was an honour to attend the ceremony and accept the award at such a prestigious venue. Celebrating alongside industry professionals was a magic and memorable evening,” McFadden said.
Judge Fiona Naylor commented: “For a relatively new practice Tom Mark Henry shows an energy and ability to deliver and retain the integrity of great design on what are probably high-pressure or low-budget commercial and hospitality projects. Their work is not overdesigned; there is a certain restraint and solid decision making going on.”
The judging panel included Naylor (Johnson Naylor), Elly Ward (Royal College of Art) and Ben Kelly (Ben Kelly Design).
Founded in 2014, the studio brings together a team with backgrounds in interior architecture, design, property and business. They work across a broad spectrum of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and workspace projects.
According to Nottage, collaboration lies at the heart of Tom Mark Henry’s award-winning success as the team works closely with clients to realise their vision. “The win has ignited our fire stronger and we are even more determined to keep producing beautiful and creative work for our clients,” said Nottage.
Since its founding Tom Mark Henry has received first place and commendations in the World Interiors News Awards, Australian Interior Design Awards, EatDrinkDesign Awards, Interior Design Excellence Awards and Restaurant and Bar Design Awards.
The studio is currently working on a workplace project, a Harris Farm stores and hospitality venues in Darling Square and Cronulla.
