Located in Collingwood, Stomping Ground Brewery and Beer Hall references the industrial revolution and 20th century steampunk through its detailed design.

Studio Y has created a space with impeccable detailing and a thoughtful vintage-industrial aesthetic, incorporating a mix of finishes including Carrara marble, timber and blackened steel.

There are echoes of a 1920s era train station with bench-style seating and a suspended menu ‘time board’, accented and authenticated with crafted frosted light fittings.

The vintage-inspired lights feature Stomping Ground’s logo – just one of the many bespoke details in the fitout.

The lighting produced in collaboration with ambience also played a crucial role. This included everything from refurbishing fixtures found in an abandoned Belorussian football stadium to locally producing a number of original features.

Varied and meticulously controlled light levels were considered and implemented to effectively manage different zones, so the mood and atmosphere can be at an optimum no matter what time of day, night or occasion.

The space is deceptive – although the brewery, one of the main functions of the interior, is embraced – many of the zones feel more open and warm, with a completely retractable roof adorned in greenery and a terracotta palette. The result makes the space feel more like an abandoned conservatory than a warehouse.

The brewery can be glimpsed throughout the space.

Other finessed touches include the kids’ cubby house, which adds to the relaxed nature of the interior. And of course, the hallmark is the striking 1,400 square meter working brewery.

The space is a throwback to yesteryear, creating a drinking, dining and nostalgic utopia that invites you to not only soak in the delights on tap, but stay a little longer and soak in the atmosphere itself.
