The Victorian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects has shortlisted 74 projects for the 2015 Victorian Architecture Awards.
The shortlisted projects were chosen from a field of 197 entries across 15 categories: Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations & Additions); Residential Architecture – Houses (New); Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing; Small Project Architecture; Urban Design; Heritage Architecture; Interior Architecture; Commercial Architecture; Public Architecture – New; Public Architecture – Alterations & Additions; Educational Architecture; Sustainable Architecture; COLORBOND® Award for Steel Architecture; Melbourne Prize; and the Regional Prize.
All entries including the shortlisted projects will be exhibited in the Atrium at Federation Square from 26 May to 8 June.
The winners from each category will be announced at the 2015 Victorian Architecture Awards presentation on 26 June, after which they will progress to the National Architecture Awards in November 2015. We take a look at a few of the intriguing shortlisted projects below.
Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations & Additions)
The Water Factory involves the refurbishment and residential conversion of a late 19th century industrial warehouse building in North Fitzroy and engages with issues of extended family dwelling, spatial flexibility and adaptive reuse.

The curved form of the Abode318 tower serves to articulate each of the 450 apartments in the façade. The undulating surface of the tower affects wind pressure and protects pedestrians from downdrafts, while the interior is based on the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

Interior Architecture
Tower House is a renovation and extension to a weatherboard home in Alphington, Victoria by Andrew Maynard Architects. The original was restored, including two children’s rooms, a bathroom and living spaces. A studio, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and dining occupy the new part of the house.
