Australia’s largest Art Deco festival returns

The Art Deco Festival will be held in Leeton, New South Wales from 8 to 10 July.

Making the most of the city’s significant range of well-preserved Art Deco buildings, including the Hydro Hotel (built in 1919) and the Roxy Theatre (built in 1930), the festival celebrates the period that lasted from 1910 to 1940 in Australia.

Approximately 550 kilometres west of Sydney and 450 kilometres north of Melbourne, Leeton is located north-west of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of NSW.

The Festival weekend features a wide range of activities designed to showcase the history of the area and, particularly, these Heritage buildings, with events such as Henry Lawson at Home at Henry Lawson Cottage, the Gatsby Cabaret Soiree at the Parlour and cocktail-making workshops, as well as more family friendly fare like the Art Deco photobooth and storytime for children at the Library.

There are also vintage car and machinery displays, live period-related music and a soapbox derby. The Tutankhamun Roadshow will bring the wonders of Ancient Egypt to the festival in a free experience and exhibition showcased in three different theatrettes and located alongside the Leeton Museum and Gallery.
