Iconic Italian furniture brand B&B Italia celebrates their fiftieth birthday at Milan Design Week by showcasing new designs by Antonio Citterio, Doshi Levien and Naoto Fukasawa, and contract pieces by Jeffrey Bernett and Jasper Morrison at their showroom in Via Durini.
Husband-and-wife design duo Doshi Levien released three ranges with B&B Italia, all defined by their sensuous curves. The Do-Maru armchair takes its name from the ancient armour worn by samurais. The armour was made up of painted and decorated thick leather plates that covered and protected the hero’s body.
Tabour ottomansĀ were designed to form islands in the centre of a room or to become the natural continuation of sofas and armchairs.
TheĀ Maru tablesĀ combine a thick glossy painted top with a satin painted structure. The top is made from glass, wood or marble while the frame is available in black, white, black chromed or pewter painted.
Antonio Citterio’s revisits the aesthetic of classical three-legged pedestal tables with Cozy.
He also released ÉdouardĀ – an upholstered furniture series with a gently curved silhouette, high backrest and the option of a headrest – andĀ Eucalipto, a series of storage units.
The enduring appeal of Naoto Fukasawa’s Papilio series is amplified with the addition of theĀ Papilio shell with armrests. A new stackable outdoor version is also now available.
And to celebrate 50 years, B&B Italia has released Grande Papilio 50°, a limited edition version sheepskin covered version of their popular Grand Papilio armchair.
For the first time, leading British designer Jasper Morrison has designed a piece for B&B Italia. Originally designed for the Tate Gallery of Modern Art in London, theĀ Bankside armchair and sofaĀ are designed for commercial projects but have a slender enough profile to also work in residential projects.
Also introduced is a sofa version of the Project Metropolitan ’14 armchair. TheĀ Metropolitan ’14 sofaĀ features the same continuous lines of the other designs in the range but with the addition of a four-spoke base.
For those in Milan, the brand is also on show in the exhibitionĀ B&B Italia/The Perfect DensityĀ at La Triennale di Milano.
