Push Architecture win AIA Building of Year award

Push Architecture won theĀ Building of the Year award for its refurbishment of the Griffith University Student Guild at theĀ AIA Gold Coast/Northern Rivers Regional Architecture Awards on the Gold Coast last week.

The Australian Institute of Architects recognised 11Ā projects across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region at the ceremony, including two residential projects. Shaun Lockyer Architects’ Hinterland House won the Gold Coast/Northern Rivers House of the Year, with theĀ jury praising its “sense of place [which] is achieved through the capturing of views, passive solar design, simplicity of section, spatial treatments and quality of detailing.” TheĀ Regional Project of the Year was awarded to Shane Denman Architects for 2A Concrete, a modernistic family home on Palm Beach, constructed predominantly from concrete.

Regional Commendations were awarded to:

  • Casino Aboriginal Medical Service byĀ Kevin O’Brien Architects in association with AECOM (Casino)
  • 60s Modern byĀ Jamison Architects (Burleigh Heads)
  • Monaco Renovation byĀ Paul Uhlmann Architects (Broadbeach Waters)
  • Stella Maris Church byĀ Straw & Dunne with PMG Architects (Broadbeach)
  • Dryandras Residence byĀ Paul Uhlmann Architects (Casuarina Beach)
  • Griffith University Red Zone, Gold Coast Campus byĀ Cox Rayner Architects (Southport)
  • ALTA Main Beach byĀ Willemsen Architecture (Main Beach)
  • Margaret Olley Art Centre byĀ Bud Brannigan Architects (Murwillumbah)

The projects will now progress to the Queensland State Architecture Awards, which will be announced on Friday 24 June in Brisbane.
