Check out the winners and amazing imagery from the 2022 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) Gala.

For our twentieth anniversary, glam, splendour and talent were all under the same roof, as the winners of IDEA 2022 were announced at the beautiful Timber Yard in Melbourne.

Hundreds of high profile architects and designers applauded the recipients of the 2022 IDEA Awards beautifully designed by Axolotl.

The fabulous Tim Ross, Master of Ceremony for the night, delighted guests and entertained visitors all throughout the evening.

The Overall Winner for the Project of the Year as well as Hospitality winner awards were attributed to Ace Hotel Sydney, executed by Flack Studio.

This 18-storey hotel explores the relationship between private and public in a gritty megalopolis, retaining the distinctively modernist aesthetic of Ace Hotels with a uniquely Australian twist.

Russell & George is on everyone’s lips, and rightly so: this Melbourne-based and internationally recognised award-winning architecture and design studio is this year’s Designer of the Year for its mastery of eclecticism.

The future lies with this year’s Emerging Designer recipient, Brahman Perera, for his portfolio of colourful, decadent and considered works, as well as his distinctive approach and vision to style and aesthetics.

The prestigious Community Services award went to practise Scott Carver for its refurbishment of the  Wesley Edward Eagar Centre (WEEC), which supports the reintegration of vulnerable residents into the community by promoting dignity and well-being.

Bright, comfortable and playful, this is the DNA of the HÜTT 01: PassiveHouse project by Melbourne Design Studio, which took the Sustainability award, while Woods Bagot was Highly Commended for its project The Hayesbery, similarly to FJMT Interiors for Built Head Office.

Lastly, our Gold Medallists are Jonathan Richards and Kirsten Stanisich, from the eponymous practice Richards Stanisich, for their newly minted vision and love for digital innovations and earthly simplicity.

Across retail, residential, hospitality and commercial sectors, Richards Stanisich projects always elicit emotion – which explains why the practice was also shortlisted in the Hospitality category.
