Entries are now open for the 2014 Houses Awards, an annual program celebrating Australia’s best residential architecture. The award celebrates Australia’s best residential architecture projects. This year’s awards are spread across nine categories: Australian House of the Year; New House under 200 square metres; New House over 200 square metres; House alteration and addition under 200 metres; House alteration and addition over 200 metres; Apartment or Unit; House in a Heritage Context; Outdoor; and Sustainability.

The Australian House of the Year remains the most coveted prize and comes with an additional cash prize of $5000. The remaining category winners receive a $1000 cash prize with their award.

The House Awards program is a great platform for Australian architects and designers to showcase their work and offers a great insight into contemporary residential design trends.

A jury comprising industry experts and professionals with high standings judges the event. This year’s the jury includes: Brian Donovan – Principal, BVN Donovan Hill (Qld); Maggie Edmond – Founding Director, Edmond and Corrigan (Vic); William Smart – Creative Director, Smart Design Studio (NSW); Emma Williamson – Co-Founder, CODA (WA); and Katelin Butler – Editor, Houses magazine (Vic).

Entry is open to all design professionals – both Australian and international. Eligibility dictates that the projects must be completed between 1 January 2013 and 28 February 2014. Where appropriate, the projects can be entered in more than one category.

The last day to enter is Friday 28 March, 2014. The shortlist will be published online by Friday 2 May, with awards and commendations to be presented during a celebration at Sydney’s Doltone House Hyde Park on Friday 1 August. Tickets will go on sale in May.
